A Little Trivia

Just a short post today as I am beat from running my butt all around the city handing out job applications. That resume writing business is not fun! I wish I lived in England--they got the DAY OFF for the Royal Wedding! WHAT THE WHAT? C'mon! Canada is basically still Britain... we could have gotten the day off!

I digress. Here is a pretty cool article I found (Text and picture below is taken from The Daily What):

Wedding Dress of the Day: While Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen wedding dress by Sarah Burton was quite a sight, it lacks the kind of legendary backstory that separates the contemporary from the instant classic:

This wedding dress was made from a nylon parachute that saved the groom’s life during World War II. Maj. Claude Hensinger, a B-29 pilot, and his crew, were returning from a bombing raid over Yowata, Japan, in August 1944 when their engine caught fire. The crew was forced to bail out. It was night and Major Hensinger landed on some rocks and suffered some minor injuries. During the night he used the parachute both as a pillow and a blanket. In the morning the crew was able to reassemble and were taken in by some friendly Chinese. He kept the parachute and used it as a way to propose to Ruth in 1947. He presented it to her and suggested she make a gown out of it for their wedding.

The dress — modeled after the one that appeared Gone with the Wind — is now on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History.

Go Green or Go Home

Spring has finally arrived! . . .  well, it's trying to, anyway. Even in Toronto. Right now the wind is howling, the rain is pattering, but there are still wild flowers bursting out of the decayed foliage all around my neighbourhood. And there are definitely tulips on my window sill. So needless to say, I'm kind of in a green mood! And no, this has nothing to do with the Canadian election, so save 'dem jokes!

Wedding Movie Extravaganza!

Movies! I am a fiend when it comes to cinema. I will watch everything and anything. I love old movies, new movies, classics, foreign, comedies, action -- I really mean, everything! Those classic "How Many Movies Have You Seen?" quizzes implode when I answer them.

This is a wedding blog, however, so I'll stick to naming the films I've enjoyed that are based on or around a wedding!   Some of them are bad and some are just classics in the wedding genre!

 

I would have to say that My Best Friend's Wedding is my favourite out of all of them. A close second would be Four Wedding and a Funeral.

Miss Bee's Big Attendant Question

So we here at LBP are all for going against the grain, for doing things that no one else expects all for the sake of you having an amazing day. Today's question falls under this umbrella of win.

Would you have a Maid or Man of Honour? A Best Lady over a Best Man?

It's that simple! Why let gender roles dictate who's at your side to support you when the big day comes? I mean, what if your best friend was from the opposite sex? What if you wanted them to be there for you in lieu of asking a girl/guy friend who you really haven't had much to do with through your formative years? 

I do realize, however, that there can still be a bit of tension here if say, the bride had a really boisterous partier for a 'Man of Honour' who was more interested in getting to the open bar than picking through tulle. Or if the Best Lady is really flirty and expected to be at the Groom's beck and call when he needs a hand. Breaking tradition can get tricky.

So, would you? Wouldn't you? If not, why? Shout it out!
