Wedding Movie Extravaganza!

Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding
Movies! I am a fiend when it comes to cinema. I will watch everything and anything. I love old movies, new movies, classics, foreign, comedies, action -- I really mean, everything! Those classic "How Many Movies Have You Seen?" quizzes implode when I answer them.

This is a wedding blog, however, so I'll stick to naming the films I've enjoyed that are based on or around a wedding!   Some of them are bad and some are just classics in the wedding genre!

I would have to say that My Best Friend's Wedding is my favourite out of all of them. A close second would be Four Wedding and a Funeral.

What wedding movies do you love?

If It's Not Like the Movies

classic movie romance
It's become a busy week here on the Prairies, and I don't have much of a post for you guys today besides a few words about Katy Perry (Again? you cringe). Her Grammy performance of the song 'Not Like the Movies' was so moving to me I just had to share it with you. I saw it when it initially aired back in February but I revisit it from time to time. The curtain with the projection of her marriage to Russell Brand actually makes me tear up it's so beautiful--especially with the song. So watch the video, for my sake!

True Romance

Classic movie romantic gesture
Who hasn't watched a classic romance movie and jealously wished something like that could happen to you? I think any one who lived through their teenage years has had that feeling. But here's my question Prairie-Readers... does true romance shape the movies, or do the movies shape romance? A little art is life/life is art conundrum of the heart.

16 Candles
To me, I feel as though Hollywood is a give and take when it comes to romance. We take inspiration from the movies, but true and real romance will always outshine any onscreen gestures that LA can produce.

Films are depictions of life exaggerated to the umpteenth degree. But is there truth behind the raised boomboxes, candle-lit monologues or rainy day kisses?

The Breakfast Club
I think there is to a certain extent. There is always that 'guy who you barely talk to but know you love with' in high school, the 'obsessive guy-friend' or the 'mysterious bad-boy'.

OR, let me go all 'Matrix' on you-- do these archetypes exists because we imagine they do thanks to the influence of Hollywood?

I don't know! What do you think?
